Expecto Patronum

Okay for this one you’re going to need to track with me.

I am a fan of the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling.  The reason that I think I like these books/movies so much is not for their entertainment value, which I believe they have.  But for the ongoing battle between good and evil that I relate so much to God vs. satan.  There are several scenes where the main character Harry, has to face these demonic beings called Dementors.  In these scenes, Harry has to use a special incantation, called Expecto Patronum, to ward these Dementors off.  As soon as he utters the incantation, with power and belief, the Dementors flee rapidly.

I am reminded of the power of Christ’s name from these scenes.  When I say power, I do not mean magic like the movie/books portray, but a very real power that we, as humans, can call upon when we need anything.

In Acts 16 Paul and some apostles are being followed by a demon-possessed girl.

Acts 16:18

18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.

Satan and demons flee at the name of Christ.  He has such great power that they can’t even hear His name uttered.  We need to call on this power when we are faced with evil.  Whether it’s frightening thoughts/dreams or physical troubles, we are to call on the name of Christ and satan cannot stand against it.  Spiritual warfare is a very real thing and we need the right battle tools to fight.  Calling on the name of Christ is our strength! Use it as you face a battlefront every day.
