When we first moved to California 2 years ago, I made 6 of these wooden pictures for my bathroom. I recently started thinking that they would make a nice Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Birthday, or Christmas gift. They were very inexpensive and easy to make.
What you need:
You can purchase these supplies at either Michaels or JoAnn Fabrics. The prices listed are the regular prices for these items. You can use store coupons or store sales to make your purchase even cheaper. Especially if you want to make multiple gifts.
a wooden plaque shape ($1.49 – $2.99 depending on size)
foam brushes/paint brush ($.39)
craft paint ($.50 – $1.99)
pencil and/or masking tape
modge podge or photo safe glue
- Paint your surface however you would like with whatever colors you would like. (I have 2 samples posted below of what I did for patterns.) You may need to do 1 or 2 coats to cover the wood completely. I used masking tape to make the brown design on the large plaque. I traced a circle shape for the design on the above plaque.
- Let surface dry and cut picture to the shape that you desire. Use the modge podge or glue to secure your picture to the surface. If you want to give your picture either a glossy or a matted surface (which I did not do) you can paint the modge podge completely over the top of the surface of the plaque and the picture. This will seal it and give it a sheen.
