Meals-On-The-Go Series: Turkey Wraps 2 Ways

We are going to be starting a new series for all of the busy families out there, who feel like the only thing they have time for is to stop by fast-food for dinner.  I understand this because I have been there many nights!  While there are many healthier options out there for families, it still doesn’t beat having something that you made ahead and planned to take with you.  With a busy sports season in the spring, many of my friends have told me that they would love to have the option of a quick meal that they could bring with them to games, practices, etc.

Crockpot meals are great if you are going to be out of the house all day and you want to come home to something already made, but what about the family who is out-and-about during dinner time.  This is where meals-on-the-go comes in. We are going to be featuring a meal-on-the-go recipe once a week on our site.  Hopefully this will help you to build up some meals so that your family can save money and eat healthy while you are out.

Items needed for Meals-on-the-go Kit:
Small cooler (small enough to fit in your fridge, but large enough to fit your families food)
A reusable bag to store dry goods in
Paper plates or plastic if you want to wash and reuse
Tupperware container with utensils (either plastic or flatware, again depending if you want to wash it)
Water bottle for each family member
Tupperware containers for food items
ice pack for cooler
Napkins
Moist towelettes or hand sanitizer

I’ll do the price breakdown for 1 wrap and then just multiply it by how many wraps you are planning to make.

Here’s your first meal option: Turkey Wraps 2 Ways

Ingredients:

Tortilla $.10

Lettuce $.03

Avocado mixed w/squirt of lemon juice (so it won’t discolor) 1/4 for 1 $.31

Turkey (3 slices) (I used Buddig lunchmeat, but you can use whichever suits your families needs best) $.26

Cheese 1 TBS $.05

Feel free to add as many extras as you or your family would like (tomatoes, olives, peppers, sprouts, etc)

Directions:

Place tortilla on cutting board and spread avocado over the whole side

Layer the other ingredients and roll up, cut in half for easier storage

Store in a tupperware container in cooler in fridge until ready to leave and then just tote the cooler with you.

(Snacks and side dishes for these meals will come in a later post) 🙂
