Frugal Family Adventures: St. Edwards Park

This is a beautiful park, I had heard about it for years but finally went to visit last summer and my kids were in heaven. Located in the Juanita area of Kirkland, WA this park has a great play structure. My kids could have played for hours in this castle play area. There is also a tot area in the park and swings but I think the biggest hit with my kids was definately the awesome castle they could run through and play in. We absolutely loved playing at this park and will go back again this summer.

Celery Root Experiment

I love it when my mom comes to town because she has a green thumb and is teaching me how to garden for this year.  She told me of something she heard about in replanting celery stalks and they regrow into new celery.

We placed the 3 inches or so of the bottom of the celery stalk, that I cut off the bottom of the bunch, into a shallow bowl of warm water and placed it in a sunny window.  We did this 1 day ago and it already is showing new roots and has grown taller.

Today I plan to plant this little piece in my garden.

I will:

  • Fill a small hole (about an inch deep) with water and place the piece in
  • Cover it with an inch of dirt and water it thoroughly
  • Keep it well watered and in a couple more days the new growth will begin to show

I will continue to do this recycling of my celery, which my family loves!!!

Jack and Jill Consignment Sale

I am so excited, my favorite time of year is here: Garage sale season!! Okay so the Jack and Jill sale is not a garage sale, actually I think it is a thousand times better. This weekend at the Lynnwood Convention Center over 200 consigners will have their gently used clothes, toys and childrens items for sale. They have stuff for babies all the way up to 12 years of age and I have been able to purchase quality clothing and toys for my kids at past sales for a great price!! Last year I got some brand new shirts for my 7 year old for just $2.00 each. Now I don’t know about you but I get really excited to see bargains on clothing for my kids!! All the clothing and toys I have seen there have been in really good condition, I already have my shopping bags ready and can’t wait to get there. Continue reading

How to Stretch a Tight Budget

I know that when your budget is already tight, it is hard to think of couponing or doing anything that seems like spending money in order to save. Here are a few ways I have been able to stretch a budget that is already tight.

Reevaluate your spending, look over household expenses and find ways to cut back. I have found that when things get tight I can look over our budget and find that things like phone services, cable, eating out and other expenses can be changed to save money or cut back all together.
